CELEBRATE PENTECOST: THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 4

We are delighted that The Rev. Steve Rorke was selected as our Interim Rector. Steve will join us officially on June 1, and his first Sunday will be June 4, which is Pentecost. This is also the first Sunday of our 9:00 a.m. service time.

As we celebrate the Day of Pentecost, we will hear the simultaneous reading of Acts 2:1-21 (click here for the reading) in multiple languages and pray the Lord’s Prayer in different languages. (If you speak another language please plan to participate!) Remember to wear something red, the color for Pentecost representing flames of fire and the coming of the Holy Spirit. After the service, please join us for a festive coffee hour celebrating the church’s birthday and the arrival of our Interim Rector, Steve! A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.

BUDGET AND BAGELS
Join us for the next semi-annual budget and bagels session in the lounge on Sunday, June 11, following 9:00 am worship. Our treasurer will review the parish’s current financial status and answer your questions.

ST. ANDREW’S EIGHTH ANNUAL MIDSUMMER POETRY FEST
St. Andrew’s Eighth Annual Midsummer Poetry Fest reading will take place on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 4:00 pm in the lounge.
All ages are invited to choose a poem (or poems) that has special meaning for them or that they particularly like and would enjoy sharing with others. It does not have to be something you have written yourself. This year’s theme is music, but feel free to choose another subject if you prefer. Light refreshments will follow the reading.
No auditions, no rehearsals, but we would like to know if you are coming and what you will be reading so Helen can make a program. Please email Helen at hke123@msn.com. There is also a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

ST. ANNE’S GUILD QUARTERLY PROGRAM & LUNCH: 11:30 A.M. ON TUESDAY, JUNE 13
Join us for a unique and very timely program presented by Diane Wright. She will share her experiences as a delegate representing the Episcopal Church at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. We will learn why the Episcopal Church sends representatives to the U.N., how the new sustainable development goals adopted by the U.N. affect women and girls around the world and discern what we can do as individuals or as a parish to support women and girls locally or globally.

St. Anne’s Guild meets quarterly in the Lounge for interesting programs and luncheon. We bring a sandwich cut into fourths to share and a side dessert or salad. All are welcome to join for the program and/or luncheon. If scheduling is a challenge for you, the program will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last about 45 minutes.

MUSIC NOTES
St. Andrew’s choir is joining with Holy Cross of Dunn Loring and others in a concert with the Raleigh Boy Choir in our church on Saturday, June 24 at 7 pm. This is an event you won’t want to miss as we celebrate how Music Brings Us Together.

GLORIOUS COMPANIONS
Glorious Companions will be on summer break and will resume in September.

SUMMER MURDER MYSTERY BOOK CLUB IS BACK!
Now that summer is almost here, it’s time for the return of the St. Andrew’s Murder Mystery Book Club! This year we’ll be reading “Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death: The Grantchester Mysteries” by James Runcie (the first book in the series). If this title sounds familiar, you may know it from the popular PBS series. Be sure to get your copy now, as we’ll gather on August 6 to discuss our thoughts about the book. Happy reading!

ST. ANDREW’S PLOT AGAINST HUNGER SIGN UP

Greetings! Last week, Marcela watered on Tuesday and mother nature did the rest. On Saturday, Anne, Doris, Susan, Simone, Carla, Jannah, Talal, Ted and Dave weeded extensively in the garden and installed the first phase of our drip irrigation! Now you only need to hand water the climbing sweet peas as you first enter the garden along with the cabbages, kale and collards at the rear of garden and the beets and carrots on the far left of the garden as you enter! Doris delivered 30 pounds of radishes to AFAC for a total of 63 pounds this year from the garden!
We will be hosting another work day this Saturday, June 3, at 10:30 am (June 4 at 11:00 am is the rain date). Please consider coming and joining us. We will most likely be weeding, installing more irrigation and planting beets, carrots, and melons. Additionally, thanks to those who signed up to water this week although obviously there was no need to water so far with all the rain. We still need volunteers to sign up for next week out into the future. Please commit an hour to the garden when you can. The sign up is at:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e4eabab2aab9-standrews. Thanks!
