Music at St. Andrew’s
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church welcomes you to participate in its music program. Our Adult Choir rehearses each Sunday morning in the choir loft at 9:00 a.m. in preparation for the 10:00 a.m. sung service. Additional rehearsals are held at other times in preparation for festival services. No audition is necessary. Our repertory is accessible, and we encourage new members to join us.
Our Children’s Choir is open to all ages 14 and under and meets immediately following the dismissal and postlude of the 10:00 a.m. service. Children gather around the piano in the nave to rehearse hymns, carols and songs for worship. They receive instruction in beginning music theory and vocal technique and in the fundamentals of pitch recognition.
The music in our worship services is supported and accompanied by the Petty-Madden pipe organ. The 53-rank instruments of three manuals and pedal are of French design and speak in our live and resonant space. Of particular note is the beauty of the ensembles possible on this instrument as well as the bold festival trumpet. Festival services during Holy Week, Easter, Christmas, St. Andrew’s Day and other occasions at St. Andrew’s are often enhanced by visiting instrumentalists. Talented guest artists provide exceptional solo repertoire and variety during worship.
St. Andrew’s frequently hosts visiting choirs and instrumental groups from across the country. The visiting ensembles provide music during preludes, offertory anthems, during communion and extended postlude concerts attended by the whole congregation after the service.
Again, all are welcome.
