Dear members of St. Andrew’s,
On behalf of the Vestry, I am delighted to announce that St. Andrew’s has selected The Rev. Steve Rorke as our Interim Rector. Steve will join us officially on June 1, and his first Sunday will be June 4, which is Pentecost. This is also the first Sunday of our 9 am service time. We’ll celebrate both Pentecost and Steve’s arrival with a festive coffee hour after the service.
Steve stood out among the four candidates the Vestry interviewed for his reputation for pastoral care, focus on outreach, experience in administration, and easygoing manner. You may remember that Steve was with us briefly in the summer of 2014. He most recently served as Interim Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland, and as Associate Rector at St. George’s in Arlington. Previously, his ministry included serving as Executive Director of the Lorton Community Action Center and the Arlington Community Temporary Shelter, now known as Doorways for Women and Families.
St. Andrew’s will hold several opportunities for parishioners to get to know Steve better. These include a casual meet-and-greet at Starbucks on Saturday, June 10 at 4 pm at the Lee Heights Shopping Center near the church (4526 Lee Highway) and on Wednesday, June 14 for a casual wine and cheese in the Lounge at 7 pm. Please consider joining us for one of these events.
As Steve joins our parish, St. Andrew’s will also soon be standing up the Parish Search Committee to search for our next permanent Rector. More details will be forthcoming as this important committee begins its work.
I want to thank each of you for your patience and continued dedication to St. Andrew’s during this interim time. I also want to express my appreciation for our wonderful supply priests, Rev. Jackie Thomson, Rev. Ann Martens, and Rev. Jonathan Bryan, who have brought their gifts of ministry and preaching to our parish. I especially want to thank our fantastic staff–Susan, Brandon, Diane, and Aubrey–who have worked tirelessly to make everything run so smoothly these last few months, particularly as we celebrated Holy Week and Easter.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you’ll join me in giving Steve a warm welcome as our Interim Rector.
