Please bring Halloween candy donations to church by Monday, November 6 and place them in the bin across from Susan’s office. Through Operation Gratitude, this candy will be sent to our Deployed Troops and First Responders serving overseas who often give it to children in the countries they serve. This year, St. Andrew’s again is participating in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. The purpose of the program is to provide NEW clothing/shoes/toys for children of the neediest families designated by The Salvation Army in the Washington, DC area to receive Christmas assistance. St. Andrew’s has adopted 45 angels for Christmas. For each angel, the family that has signed up for that angel will shop for NEW, UNWRAPPED gifts, including two or three toys and an outfit/coat — if possible — from the wish list on the Angel Tree Tag. Also, it is always possible to “share” an angel if that works better.
All new, unwrapped gifts must be brought to St. Andrew’s by Sunday, December 3 and should be labeled with the original Angel Tree Tag. Please do NOT seal the bags as we will add a separate paper ID tag inside the bag. You may include wrapping paper and gift boxes, but please keep gifts UNWRAPPED. Any gifts brought to St. Andrew’s before December 3 should be labeled and/or in labeled bags and left in the outer office.
We will have a sorting party in the Chapel right after service on Sunday, December 3. If you have any questions, including about sharing an angel, please contact Jen Gowetski at or 703-725-4611.

St. Andrew’s “Soul Sisters” are gathering Monday, November 6 from 7:30 to 9 pm.
All women of St. Andrew’s in all stages of their lives (working, retired, caregiving, exploring possibilities) are invited. Questions? Contact Diane.

Once again, St. Andrew’s is pleased to provide materials for your Advent Wreath. If you would like to get Advent candles, or either a metal or foam oasis Advent ring, please sign up at Sign-Up Central or online through this link to SignUp Genius ( The deadline for placing orders is Monday, November 20. Materials will be available for pick up after Thanksgiving.


Pledge Cards for Children are available in the Chapel and on the Haiti table. Families are encouraged to have a conversation around the dinner table about what does it mean to give back to God from all that we have received from God. How can each one of us give thanks to God. Please pick up a pledge card which includes many different ways of giving thanks. (Stewardship cards will be gathered on November 19, St. Andrew’s Day.)
Last Sunday: We discussed rules… rules, rules, rules! But which are the most important rules? The great commandments: Love the Lord your God — Love your neighbor as yourself.
Discussion Starter: How can we show our love to God? How can we show our love to our neighbor? What steps will we take this week to show that love.
Prayer Starter: Dear Lord God, help us to love you with all of our heart and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Amen.
This Sunday: We are ALL saints of God! And as we celebrate All Saints Day, our focus in the Lord’s Prayer this week is: Thy Kingdom Come.

Save the Date: Talking to Teens about the Tough Stuff
Parents of teens are invited to a discussion and workshop on November 28, 7-8:30 pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (2609 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington). Please click here for the flyer. Friends and neighbors are welcome.

For our meeting in the Lounge at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 8, we’ll be reading Chapter 8 of Radical Spirit by Joan Chittister.

We had a great turnout on Saturday for our last work day of the season. Ted, Anne, Doris, Dave, along with Marymount students and faculty Brennna, Allison, Alex, Aiden, Jack, Callie, Anthony, Marshal, Ndidi, Danielle, Beverly, Abdul, Alex, and Susan along with Restoration City Church volunteers Laura, Sarah, John, Jordan, Alan, Shannon, Bryan, Lindsey, Nathan and Portico Church members Dylan and Valerie picked green beans, peppers, tomatillos, tomatoes, carrots and beets. We cleared and mulched the garden to end another very successful season. Susan delivered 101 pounds of produce from our garden and 15 pounds from the CSA. Our totals for AFAC this season are now at 2,497 pounds from the garden and 186.5 pounds from the Sinclair’s CSA!
This was our last major work day at the garden for the season. Afterwards, we hosted a thank you barbeque to express our sincere appreciation to all of our volunteers and it was yummy!

Finally, a big thanks to Nat at Episcopal High School for providing wonderful healthy plants for the garden throughout the Spring, the Sinclair’s CSA for donating beautiful produce from their CSA, and importantly, Puwen, for her continued encouragement, abundant seeds, volunteers, and plants. We also want to provide a special call out and thanks to Anne and Ted for their consistent and reliable leadership and support of this season’s amazing efforts.
It’s been a great year…thanks to all for your incredible support to make this season a great success!

David and Christina Jernigan, along with their 8-year-old daughter Riley, are distributing farm-fresh produce Thursday afternoons from 3:00-6:30 p.m. in the upper parking lot. Anyone from the parish who would like to purchase produce and products (at the same price the CSA members pay for the fresh local items such as tomatoes, lettuce, English cucumbers, apples, local raw honey, pastured eggs, and fresh beef) is invited to come by.
